Markets Update:
U.S. equity futures were little changed Wednesday evening after Wall Street’s major averages snapped a three-day losing streak driven by rising Treasury yields and renewed fighting between the U.S. and Iran.
S&P 500 futures edged up 0.02%, while Dow futures gained 19 points, or 0.04%. Nasdaq 100 futures rose 0.03%.
During regular trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed nearly 300 points, or about 0.6%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite each advanced 0.5%. The gains marked a rebound after three consecutive declines.
Treasury yields remained elevated. The two-year yield reached 4.41%, its highest level since January 2025, while the 10-year yield briefly touched 4.818%, its highest since November 2023. Both later eased from their session highs. West Texas Intermediate crude rose 0.9% to finish slightly above $91 a barrel.
New York Federal Reserve President John Williams said higher yields largely reflect a strong U.S. economy and positive growth prospects, supported by major investments in artificial intelligence, data centers and technology.
Markets remain sensitive to geopolitical developments after renewed U.S.-Iran hostilities followed signals of a shift toward economic sanctions.
Investors will focus Thursday on weekly jobless claims, while Friday’s August payrolls report is expected to be the week’s key economic release. Earnings are due from Ciena, Campbell’s, Zscaler, Docusign and UiPath.
