There are three major central bank interest rate updates on the cards, as well as some key data points throughout the coming days, while the war in the Middle East seems to escalate on an almost daily basis.

Here is our usual day-by-day breakdown of the major risk events this week:

It is a quiet start to the calendar week on Monday, with little scheduled in terms of data releases or central bank updates. Therefore, traders are expecting moves to come from any fresh updates from the Middle East over the weekend.

Australian markets will be in focus during the Asian session, with RBA Governor Michele Bullock set to speak midway through the day. There is little of note scheduled in the London session, but we do have the first major US data of the week soon after the New York open, with the CB Consumer Confidence data set for release.

Australian markets are again in focus during the Asian session on Wednesday, with key CPI numbers due out in the Sydney morning. Then it is a long wait for the big event of the day, and probably the week, when the FOMC announces its interest rate call towards the end of the US day.

Thursday is the busiest day of the week in terms of scheduled releases. It’s a relatively quiet Asian session, but the London session sees the release of key German CPI and GDP data before the focus swings to the UK and the Bank of England’s latest rate call. The New York session sees a raft of key US data all released at the same time early in the day, with the Core PCE Price Index, Advance GDP, and Weekly Unemployment Claims numbers all due out.

It is a busy Friday to close out the trading week. The Asian session sees a big focus on Japan, with the key Tokyo CPI data due out before the Bank of Japan’s interest rate call. The European session has the release of the EU Flash CPI numbers, and we round out the week with a busy New York session that features the release of the Canadian GDP numbers alongside the US Employment Cost Index data, followed by the Revised University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment and Inflation Expectations updates.

Risk Warning: Trading in securities involves significant risk.
